About Me...

I consider myself an average 33 year old guy who is married with two young kids. I work full-time during the day so my plan is to start my workouts no later than 5:30am. I know this is not going to be easy but I am determined to get in the best shape of my life!

    P90X Reviews – Day 85

Yoga-X – Last Week! I have to say, phase 3 of P90X flew by. Phase 1 seemed to drag on so if you are currently in this phase, hang tight…it does get better. I am very much looking forward to day 90 so I can officially close the book on round 1 of my P90X journey. I am a huge fan of this program and I think you are in total charge of your results. Someone who follows the P90X workout schedule and not the nutrition plan will not see the results of someone who follows both. I think I did great job on following the P90X workouts and did a pretty good job following the nutrition piece. Personally, I have never been this strict on my nutrition so I am very happy with that but I did cheat more than I expected I would these past 85 days. My initial plan was to only have 2-3 cheat days (more like cheat meals) but I ended up having about 6-7. Not sure of my exact weight right now but I think I lost more since my day 70 measurements.  My wife mentioned to me yesterday that she has noticed more weight loss just in the last couple of weeks, she also made a comment that she prefers me not to lose any more weight…which I agree. I still have fat on my body that I want to lose but it’s impossible to build muscle mass when you are losing weight. My focus during round 2 of P90X is going to be on building muscle so I will have to eat more and lay off the cardio a bit. I am going to try to maintain my weight and just replace the fat on my body with muscle…easier said than done though.

Yoga went well this morning. I am still undecided if I am going to incorporate yoga into my next round of P90X. For those that do not know, I am going to customize P90X a bit seeing that my focus is on building muscle mass. Click P90X MASS for more info…

    P90X Workout – Day 84

I will be posting updated pictures and measurements on Day 90

Kenpo-X- My schedule was a bit out of whack this week so I had kenpo-x today. I did finish the kenpo workout but I did not piggyback cardio-x on top of it. Actually, I replaced the four cardio-x routines that I was supposed to do this week with three 4 mile runs. I much rather go for a jog then do the cardio-x routine so I am glad I have that option.

Nutrition – Today is Superbowl Sunday so I do plan on having a few beers while watching the game but my hope is to stay strong on the food.

    Heading into my last week…

    P90X Plan – Day 83

Plyometrics– I was eager to redeem myself after my last plyometric fiasco earlier this week so I decided to do it today and pushed kenpo-x to tomorrow. Even though it’s Saturday, I still woke up early and started my workout at 5:30am. I somewhat expected this from all of my workouts this week but this was my BEST plyometric day of the program! I did double-time on both the “high knee tucks” and “rock star jumps”. In the past, I avoided double-time on these exercises but eventually did it for the “rock star” jumps but never both…until today anyways.

Seeing that my kids were still sleeping after my plyometric workout (6:30am), I decided to go for a 4 mile jog (actually 4.3). I have been pretty successful on completing my weekend workouts while my two young kids are sleeping throughout this whole program. It makes life a lot easier for me to get the exercising done when everyone is sleeping. Not only are there zero distractions, I don’t feel the guilt that comes with leaving the kids with my wife (also stay-at-home mom) for 2 hours…I have do it for 9 hours M-F when I  go to work so I do my best to avoid it on the weekends.

Overall, I feel like I got an unbelievable workout in this morning!

    P90X Results – Day 82

Legs & Back– I felt really good today, I used the heavier dumbbells that I recently purchased on some of the leg exercises. I also stepped it up a bit and left the ground for all 60 reps of the “Debbie Siebers 80-20” exercise. I would also say today was my best pull-up day since starting. I was banging out 7-9 pull-ups each exercise which is an upgrade from doing 2-3 in phase 1 and 4-7 in phase 2. I will soon find out what my max is but I am thinking it’s about 15-18 pull-ups now.

Seeing that today was my last ARX session, it’s official…I could not 100% complete Ab Ripper X this round of P90X. I did go from only doing 25-30% of it in phase 1 to about 95% in phase 3 so I am happy with that. My goal is to complete it during my next round of P90X which starts March 1st, 2010!

    P90X Recovery Drink Works!

Wow, this stuff must work. As most of you already know, I went for a 4.3 mile jog this past Sunday (did not take the P90X recovery drink after). My legs were a little sore on Monday but Tuesday they were ridiculously sore. I am doing “doubles” in phase 3 which is four extra cardio-x workouts a week on top of my primary P90X routine. I have not completed one cardio-x session this week so yesterday I decided to run another 4 miles during my lunch break. Not only were my legs feeling normal again, I figure a 4 mile run could count as 1 or 2 cardio-x sessions. I was a bit concerned about how my legs would feel today, especially knowing that I had the “legs & back” workout to do. To my surprise, they were completely fine…maybe felt a smidgen of soreness.

The fact that I took the P90X recovery drink right after my jog yesterday definitely played a role in my recovery. Now, did I expect to feel like I did on Tuesday after yesterday’s run…no, I did not. Prior to Sunday, the last time I went for a jog was about 7 months ago so I pretty much got the leg muscles that are used for jogging out of retirement. However, I am SHOCKED that my legs were not sore this morning.

    Thank you P90X Recovery Drink!

fightFAT: Chris - My P90X MASS routine would be perfect for you. To be honest, I thought I was going to bulk up more (physically) but it did not work out that way. What ended up happening was an increase in lean muscle. This makes sense but I also saw a significant increase with my strength. Again, my goal was to bulk up but I did not consume enough calories to make it happen. At the time, I just finished P90X doubles where I lost 27lbs so I was a bit hesitant on eating too much as I did not want to gain the weight back I just lost. Oddly enough, I have no desire to bulk up anymore…I have the same goal as you, building lean muscle. If I wasn't going to be training for my upcoming triathlons, I would be doing P90X MASS myself. I have received tons of emails claiming how effective it has been for different people. Good Luck

Chris: Hey, I just found this blog and am looking for some solid, experienced, advice. I have two rounds of P90X down and am on my final week of Insanity. Now I want to put on some lean mass and I've been considering either P90X Mass or more of a 5x5 plan. I'm trying to comb through your blog for results of your Mass circuit and can't find it. Do you have any before/after information (or other info) to help me pick a workout to do next? Thanks, C

fightFAT: Following P90X with Insanity is very impressive, good for you. I would definitely bring over Ab Ripper X if you are up for it. I initially thought that myself but never followed through with it. Good luck

Matt: Hey dude, I had a question for you. I'm wrapping up round 2 of P90X in a few weeks and starting Insanity right after. I'm really loving my upper body after P90X and I've decided I'm going to keep doing the resistance workouts from Days 1 and 3 of the week along with Insanity. My question is, what are your thoughts on bringing ab ripper with me too? I know Insanity doesn't have too much resistance work, but I know it has a lot of ab stuff which is why I'm wondering. Congrats on the progress man, and thanks for the info! -Matt

fightFAT: There is no harm in hitting pause and/or taking breaks so my recommendation is to stick with insanity. As you continue to workout, you will not only see improvement but eventually be able to keep up with the video.
