About Me...

I consider myself an average 33 year old guy who is married with two young kids. I work full-time during the day so my plan is to start my workouts no later than 5:30am. I know this is not going to be easy but I am determined to get in the best shape of my life!

    P90X MASS Reviews – Day 144

Interval Training – I am currently at the airport waiting for my flight to take me back east. I ended up swimming another 23 laps (1/3 mile) in the pool this morning. I wanted to get one more swim workout in while I had access to a lap pool. I was not going to start swim training until I opened my pool in June but I am now considering signing up somewhere in May as I could use the practice…we’ll see though. My cardio plan during my P90X Triathlon program was to hammer both running and biking in May and then focus on swimming starting in June.

Overall, I thought my workouts were really intense (felt my heart was pounding every lap) this week but my nutrition was way off so I feel like it was a wash.

    P90X MASS Results – Day 143

Okay, you are not my wife so I can go ahead and admit that this business conference I am at is not “all work”…there has been open bar receptions every night! Now, as much as I am enjoying these nightly events right now I am looking forward to getting back on a schedule with my nutrition. It’s not often that I travel for work so I do feel obligated to “live it up” while it’s being offered…so I guess I could go another day or so before heading back to reality again.

I do have some willpower though. Everyone headed to the bar after the last seminar we had but I discretely went to my room to change and hit the lap pool instead. I swam 23 laps which is equivalent to 1/3 mile…the distance of the triathlon I am doing. I am happy with that but I took way too many breaks in between so there is no doubt that I need to improve on that. I finished the workout by doing  ARX in my room.

Now off to meet up with everyone…

    P90X MASS Reviews – Day 142

Interval Training – I had such a great workout yesterday I wanted to do the same this morning. I completed a 2 mile run while increasing/decreasing my pace every half mile. I alternated between a 10 minute mile and a 6:40 minute mile. I then hit the lap pool and swam 1/4 mile…with a good amount of short breaks in the middle. Swimming laps is so much harder than I expected but I do love the challenge and I am looking forward to seeing some great progress over the next 13 weeks…Bring It!

Nutrition- As much as I have had some solid workouts this week, I feel like am offsetting them with my nutrition. The conference I am at this week is feeding us with not-so-healthy food all day long. I am doing great during the day but I am cheating a bit at night. I did sneak in a 3 mile run last night before hitting dinner so that did help with some of the guilt I might have felt if I did not do it.

    P90X MASS Results – Day 141

Interval Training – I had a great workout this morning! I started off with a 2 mile run on a treadmill. I am not used to running on a treadmill but I enjoyed it, it’s much easier to incorporate interval training into a treadmill workout. I started off slow with a speed of 6 (10 minute mile) for the first half mile. I then increased it to 9 (6:40 minute mile) for the following half mile, then back down to 6 and finished the last half at 9…overall, 2 miles. I was huffing and puffing by the end so I know I got a good workout in.

    Now for my swimming workout

Wow, I am in trouble. The lap pool (see below pic)  is 75 feet long so my goal was to complete 18 laps (each way – one lap) which equals out to ¼ mile…my triathlon swim is 1/3 mile which is 23 laps total but no chance I was going to attempt that on my first swim training day. After swimming 4 laps, I had to stop and take a break so at that point I realized I am far from where I need to be. I did complete all 18 laps but from lap 4 to 18, I pretty much took a 5 second breather every lap.

ARX – Seeing that I was a slacker last week, my goal is to complete ARX three times this week. I did complete it this morning after my swim. I brought the DVD and played it on my laptop in my hotel room. Completed about 98% of it, got stuck on the “high heel to heavens”.

    P90X MASS Reviews – Day 140

Plyometrics –  I would say this past week might have been the worse P90X week I have had since starting. The workouts went pretty good during the week but I did not do ARX (ab ripper x) once. Also, I missed a workout over the weekend. I did have a great plyometric workout (wore the 40lb vest)  this morning but I was supposed to this workout two days ago…which means I missed Core Synergistics so I will have to make that up somehow. Today marks the first day of my rest week so I am not required to do ARX this week but my plan is to do it three times to make up for last.

To make things a bit more challenging, I am off to Colorado Springs on business travel this week. Not sure if it’s functional right now but the hotel I will be staying at has an outdoor heated lap pool. If this is the case, my plan is to get a jump start on my triathlon training and swim laps for my workouts. Swimming is another great exercise that falls under the interval training routine that I have been doing during my P90X MASS rest weeks.

I not going to let last week discourage me. If anything, I am eager to get started on my P90X Triathlon training program. I also plan on being more strict on my nutrition as I did allow myself to eat more during my P90X MASS routine. Over the next 13 weeks I will be shifting my focus from building muscle to getting ripped (or at least trying) so I am looking forward to that!

fightFATblogger: That is a significant drop. You may want to look at my P90X MASS routine, read the articles under the "popular post" column. Also, I highly recommend buying a 40lb exercise vest...I absolutely love mine and it crushes you during the chest workouts (I bought mine on amazon for $70)

Otis: Hey I am 6 weeks in and I went to the gym to do some bench and I have gone from benching 315 to barely being able to do 195. I am pissed! I have lost so much strength!!! Any advice? I am ready to quit! Losing that much strength isnt worth the 2% bodyfat I have lost or all the beer I havent drank since day 1

fightFATblogger: Thanks! Check out the link below but minus out the casein protein shakes to start. Both Drisc and I lost 27-30 pounds following this program for 90 days (I allowed myself about 5 cheat meals in 90 days)...we pretty much kept our calorie count between 1700-1900 a day. As you get more fit, your body will demand more calories (metabolism increases) so throw in those casein shakes or something similiar. Everyone is different so listen to your body to make sure you are eating enough. P90 will definitly get you ready for P90X, keep in touch... http://fightfatblogger.com/nutrition/

DickG: Great job on the triathlon. Had a question, I am just starting P90, tried P90x but struggled so thought I should do a round of p90 first. What do you follow for a diet? Thanks

fightFATblogger: Thank you, and congrats on taking the Power90 / P90X challenge... Seeing that you have to workout on an empty stomach, I would recommend having a protein shake the night before. Your muscles will feed off it while you are sleeping and your body will use it as fuel during your morning workout.
