It is similiar to the P90X recovery drink.  My plan is to have a recovery drink after every workout….an hour after weigh lifting workouts have a whey protein shake….and then every night have a casein protein shake before bed.  Also may start adding a protein shake in the morning also…read a few articles that said besides working out the best time of the day to have a protein shake is in the morning to get it in your system…not sure if I should have casein or whey but I will reaserach that some more.

What's in your recovery drink? Did you buy whey and casein protein?

Casein should be taken at night and/or throughout the day to get more protein in your diet. Your muscles grow at night (during sleep) so feeding them with casein will only enhance the growth process. Definitely take casein on your training (lifting/resistance) days, your call if you should take it on the others…i am not sure what I am going to do yet. It's not necessary to take whey before and/or after a run….so you could take it at any time.

Started week 7 today.  Should have started Wednesday but took a few days off because I wasn't getting much sleep from traveling and two sick kids.  Just did chest shoulders and tris.   Good workout.  Maybe the few days off helped because I had more energy and was able to do more reps.  Just got my new recovery drink and my casein protein.  Gonna take my recovery drink now and then have a whey protein shake in 45 minutes.

I am also going to try to run a couple miles later to make up for a bad week….should I take my protein shake then wait a few hours and run….or should I hold off on the protein shake till after my run?  Also should I take the casein protein every night…even on days I don't work out?

I was supposed to start Week 7 yesterday, but had a wake to go to last night and someone hit me on my way there…so needless to say, I got home later than I expected and just wasn't feeling p9ox at that point.  So I am starting Week 7 today.  Taking the extra day, I am feeling about as rested as I have since starting p90x, so looking for a good chest/shoulders/tris workout.  Probably won't get to it to later…have a hectic day at work today.

I got in three 4 mile runs this week and two lifting days. I will most likely take the weekend off and shoot for the same thing next week. P90X has been a big part of my life these past 90 days I feel like I am slacking…and I am working out. The first 3 days of not doing P90X were great though!

I remind myself that the next round will be here before I know it so enjoy the next week or so. I also question myself why I purchased a 40lb weighted exercise vest?? Something tells me round 2 is not going to be fun, I am hoping Tony's claim will come true; "I hate it…but I love it"

    10 more days to go!

    How are you guys doing?

I got a 3.5 mile run in yesterday at the hotel…defintely didn't eat the best while traveling….missed lunch and then went to an Italian place for a 4 course meal and some wine…it was good.  Today is supposed to be day 1 of week 7…but I am not sure if I will have the energy to do the work out.  Took the red eye home last night and haven't gotten much sleep at all.  So we will see.  May push it to tomorrow.  Drisc where did you order the protein from?  I am going to get some and some more recovery drink also.

Ordered some caseine protein last night.  Figured if I was going to be adding in another protein shake at night, I might as well use the one that is supposed to continue to work while you are sleeping.  Also, weighed in this morning for my contest and was at 204….3 lbs. from my last weigh in.  Better than expected, so I was pleased with that, but I am still looking for the weight loss to pick up over the next few weeks.

Drisc – I lost more weight in phase 3 than I did in phase 2…and i cheated more in phase 3 than 2. Everyone is different but they say your metabolism is screaming in phase 3 so if you keep doing what you are doing and try to even pick it another notch in phase 3…I think you will be be very satisified with your results.

KenpoX this morning and piggy-backed it with a two-mile run.  I was dead when this was over.  Had it in my head that a two-mile run right after would be smooth sailing.  Definitely not as "easy" as I was expecting, but finished up fine.  This wraps up week 6 and I have a rest day tomorrow.  The weeks are flying by at this point.  I have to weigh in again tomorrow or Thursday, but given that I have plateaud a bit with my weight loss, I am not going to worry about it…especially since I already made my weight for this week and I was leading the competition by a long shot after the first weigh-in.  I know the weight loss will pick back up, especially with the "doubles-like" workouts I am planning and a slight tweak to the diet.  I can't commit 100% to doubles just based on lack of time during my busy season at work…but I think I can squeeze in 2-3 runs a week on top of my p90x.  Bring it.

I cheated on Saturday and a bit on Sunday. It's funny, I must have been really strict…I had some cereal yesterday and I felt guilty about it?? I don't necessarily want to lose any more weight but I am still going to be strict during the week. I figured I was averaging about a 2 pound weight loss a week so I could consume 7000 (3500 calories / pound) more calories a week and maintain my weight.

I am not going to be quick to consume an extra 7000 calories a week but it's good to know I can afford a cheat meal or two on the weekends. We'll see though, everyones body is different…i am going to keep a close eye on my weight to make sure I am not hurting myself too much with these cheat meals.

Legs and Back this morning.  I get better at this each time, but I think this is the last of the workouts where I can't maintain pace with the video.  I definitely do not do all the reps they do.  Still getting in a good workout and I feel like I even get more cardio than I would expect on this one.  Running last night for the first time in a while probably didn't help legs this morning, but at least there is no pain in the foot/ankle.

Dnash – given that you are not really looking to lose a lot of weight, I think you are in a good spot where maintaining really isn't a bad thing.  The way I look at it, is that is where I want to get to….ie. find the point where I eat pretty healthy, continue to workout and cheat when I want (within reason)  but still stay in shape.

I ran 3 miles today.  Then went out to dinner for steak tips and some beers….so it was probably a wash.  Drisc…I think getting sneakers there has made a huge difference.  I have felt much better after getting some real running sneaks.  This was the first week my weight went up (210.6 to 211) so I need to get more into it.  Going to run more to get in better cardio shape and with traveling there is always a treadmill around.

Today was my yoga day…but given that I really can't stand the Yoga, I went with something else.  I haven't run since my last episode that put me somewhat out of commission for about a week.  So I went this afternoon and bought some new sneakers.  Went to marathon sports where they watch how you walk/run and try to fit the sneaker to your own running style.  I am hoping this makes the difference.  I did a three mile run on the treadmill, surrounded by quarter mile warmup and cool down walks.  I felt really good running.  My cardio has picked up significantly…I could have definitely gone quite a bit more, but given what happened last time, didn't want to push it.  I am considering adding in 2-3 runs a week (basically doubles), as my weight loss has pretty much stopped. Stuck at 205.  I think this is partly due to me not eating enough, so I am upping my calories as well.  Regardless of weight loss, I am feeling good, so definitely staying the course with p90x.

I had back and biceps today also.  Did pretty good but noticed a big difference between my right arm and left doing curls…left couldnt keep up.  Did about 70% of abs….felt good.

Was going to run after…but then realized I was exhausted.

Congrats FFB…think I am on about day 38….so still over half to go….man…I might have to cheat tonight.

Back and Biceps today was great.  This might be my new favorite.  No exaggeration that my biceps hurt for a week last time.  I went harder this week, so I am expecting to be pretty sore tomorrow.  Good stuff.  Gotta figure out what I am going to do for Yoga tomorrow.

    Enjoy the chines, beers, etc.

    Thanks, Drisc

I am having a cheat day today (not to be confused with a cheat meal). I am banking on my metabolism being at an all time high right now so I don't think it's a big deal. The cheating will start around noonish with chinese food…i have only been thinking about it daily for the last 60 days. Then heading into town (kids are staying at in-laws) to drink and eat more! I hope I can hang though, I am 27 pounds lighter and not used to staying up till the wee hours of the night….we'll see, my plan is to "bring it" tonight as well..haha

I will be back on Monday with my nutrition, thanks again.

FFB – Your 90 day results are ridiculous!  You have definitely set the bar very high.  Nice job.  Not expecting such extreme results, but I am expecting to be at or near the best shape of my life when my 90 days  are up.  Then I shift my training more towards the cardio, with a couple of the p90x weight routines thrown in for cross-training.  Great job.  I am sure you are going to live it up today…well deserved.

Drisc - I am not just saying this but "wow"…i am very impressed with the progress you have been making. The fact that you dropped 20 or so pounds in phase 1 tells me you have been real strict on your nutrition and now you are making it quite clear that you are "bringing it" during your workouts. I do know how hard you are working to achieve this so keep it up…you must feel great!

Dnash -I can't imagine doing P90X while traveling, you are fighting battles that most do not have to worry about. Do you best to keep plyometrics in your workout regimen though. I credit the plyo workout for me being in the best running shape of my life. It's not saying too much but I have never been able to run 4 miles with such ease before (cardiovascular wise)….and i just starting running again.

Yup…I am going to still post my workouts.  I am going to continue on the P90X just replacing yoga and possibly kenpo with running….still may try to do plyo if I am home that day.  Taking today off….had to watch the kids and work…and need to relax.  Tomorrow is biceps and back, then running Sunday, Legs and Back monday and hopefully run Tuesday when I am traveling and taking Wednesday off as I will have just got off a red eye.

Just did Plyo.  This work out kills you, but it was my best one yet.  Was definitely feeling it, but I don't think I cut a single exercise even a second short.  I normally finish through the end of the clock, but there were times in the past where it was on :05 and I told myself, no chance I am doing another pass of tires.  Today kept going on everything.  Felt good.  Also glad I had a chance to get it in before 9pm!

Every week, I feel like once I get Plyo behind me it is smooth sailing.  Week 6 will be over before I know it.

DNash – you still going to post your workouts?
